Gombe National Park is located in Western part of Kigoma region, established back in1968, this is one of the smallest park in Tanzania – 13.5 square miles of protected land along the hills of the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika.

With possible exception of Mahale National Park, no other park in Africa match the magnificent experience with Chimpanzee Gombe National Park offer. While in Gombe National Park you have one of the greatest opportunities to experience chimpanzees as the park’s star attraction. Chimpanzees are not the only attraction you can find here, the park also habit other primates and mammals as well.

Early in the morning after breakfast board a shared charter flight from Arusha to Kigoma, after landing you will be transferred to from Kigoma airport to your hotel for lunch. Then in the afternoon you will have a day drip to Ujiji town and Livingstone Memorial (local fishing village optional).

On this second day depart your hotel for 2 hours’ dhow boat transfer to Gombe Stream National Park, there will be many photographic opportunities as you sail past the jungle, and game viewing from the deck of the dhow. In the afternoon you will arrive in the hotel for lunch, then you will proceed with your itinerary and start your first trek to observe the world famous chimpanzees that inhabit this park. The chimpanzees are famous in this park and they were made famous by the pioneering work of Jane Goodall.

Gombe Forest Lodge

After enjoying breakfast, you will trek into the forest to watch the habituated chimpanzees going about their everyday business. Your guide will be happy to point out their individual personality characteristics. On your trek you may be lucky enough to spot other primates that inhabit Gombe such as olive baboon, blue monkey, red tailed monkey, vervet monkey and red colobus monkey. The park also boasts 250 species of birdlife as well as numerous beautifully coloured butterflies that flutter through its green canopy. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch you may undertake in the many activities offered by the lodge, or you may just wish to cool off and take a swim or snorkel in the azure waters of Lake Tanganyika and observe the many species of cichlids that swim in these waters. Enjoy sundowners as you watch the sunset on Lake Tanganyika from Gombe Forest Lodge.

Gombe Forest Lodge

On your last day in Gombe you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast and bid a farewell to Gombe Forest Lodge and head back to Kigoma. You will cruise with the dhow and get last opportunity to take pictures of this paradise. You may wish to add other activities on top of this as you next destination, either game drive to one of the most famous National Park found in Tanzania or have some good time in Zanzibar.
