This is going to be long, so buckle up! But, I can promise you this is worth the read (or at least a skim...)
African Paraiso came highly recommended by a friend of a friend. I immediately reached out to learn more and was put in touch with Gidion, the owner of this amazing tour company. I will first admit that I am an indecisive person with very little travel experience and zero experience traveling alone. I therefore knew I would need someone who would be able to exercise their patience while providing me all of the options with detailed information. I also needed someone with strong communication skills, someone who was responsive, and someone who could easily answer every single question I might have (and there were a LOT). I found all of this in Gidion and more.
I also discovered quickly that Gidion has an innate sense of kindness, a kindness that comes naturally and cannot be taught. I found Gidion to be someone who genuinely loves his job and sincerely cares about meeting his client's needs. I was delighted to learn of his vast knowledge of the Maasai and of the powerful work he does to support their tribe and community. He has an ability to make his clients feel comfortable from the beginning, confident in their decisions, and is truthful about about all of the pros and cons.
I also must give a warm shout-out to my guide, Joshua. Joshua was extremely knowledgeable about the animals and knew all of their secret hiding spots. He always had me laughing, introduced me to lots of African music, and had the patience of a saint! His excitement and love for the animals was palpable and even though he has witnessed their every move over the years, he was just as excited to see them all over again. I couldn't have asked for a better fit and I owe that to Gidion as well for choosing him.
Lastly, I would like to highly recommend considering a solo safari, if possible. Solo meaning just you and your guide, or you and whomever you are traveling with. Going solo meant that I got to make my own schedule. It meant that I had the entire Jeep to myself which gave me the ability to climb all around it to get the best possible photos. I also felt like I had a more intimate experience with the animals, as if it were just them and I somehow connected in spirit. A solo experience is more pricey, (as it should be), but if you are able I can almost guarantee you will be so thankful you did.
Look no further when choosing a safari company. I can say with complete confidence that African Paraiso will be the right fit for whatever you are looking for :)
