6-Days Marangu Route

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Africano Paraiso guide will be on hand to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel, where you can unwind after your journey. Before your climb, you’ll meet your guide for a thorough briefing—covering essential gear, packing tips, and expert advice to ensure your ascent is as comfortable and successful as possible.

On day one, your Paraiso guide will drive you from the hotel to Marangu Gate. From there, stroll through fragrant coffee and banana plantations before entering pristine rainforest. After about seven hours on the trail, you’ll arrive at Mandara Huts. In the afternoon, choose to explore the nearby Maundi Crater or simply unwind and soak in the lush scenery. It’s your first high-altitude night—remember to sip plenty of water!

As you depart Mandara Huts, the emerald cloud forest gives way to open moorland, painted with heather and hardy alpine flora. The terrain gradually shifts into a stark, lunar-like plateau as the air grows thinner. After a nourishing lunch, set out on a 200 m acclimatization trek before returning to Horombo Huts for dinner and a restful night’s sleep.

Today is your extra acclimatization day. After breakfast, hike up to Kibo Huts and return, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude. Post-lunch, enjoy photo ops of Mawenzi Volcano, explore the surroundings, or simply rest. Spend another restful night at Horombo Huts to recharge for tomorrow’s climb.

Today’s trek crosses the stark Alpine desert, guiding you to the saddle between Kilimanjaro’s twin giants—Kibo and Mawenzi. The route is challenging, unfolding across exposed terrain with little cover. You’ll reach Kibo Huts in time for lunch, then enjoy some downtime to rest and recharge for the summit push ahead.

Under the stars, set off with your headlamp for the midnight push toward Uhuru Peak. The initial climb up to Gilman’s Point is the toughest stretch, but once you crest that ridge, the summit lies within easy reach. Stand atop Africa as dawn breaks in a blaze of color, then begin your descent back through Kibo Huts to Horombo Huts for dinner and rest. Expect about twelve hours on the trail—challenging, but incredibly rewarding!

On your final morning, you’ll descend through Kilimanjaro’s lush forests en route to Marangu Gate—a scenic 5–6-hour trek. From there, your Paraiso guide will drive you back to your hotel, where you can unwind and celebrate your achievement.
