A Tanzania safari does not have one fixed price. The final amount depends on travel season, group size, accommodation, route, park fees, vehicle arrangements, internal flights and the exact inclusions. Two trips with the same number of days can therefore differ by thousands of dollars while both remain legitimate.

The most useful way to budget is to start with a broad planning range, then request an itemized proposal for your dates. The figures below are market benchmarks reviewed in September 2026. They are not a quotation from Africano Paraiso and should not be used as a promise of availability.

Typical Tanzania safari planning ranges

  • Budget or shared safari: approximately USD 250–400 per person per day
  • Private mid-range safari: approximately USD 400–700 per person per day
  • Luxury safari: approximately USD 700–1,500 or more per person per day
  • Highly exclusive or ultra-luxury safari: often above USD 1,500 per person per day

These broad ranges assume a multi-day safari and normally use per-person sharing figures. Solo travel, festive dates, fly-in routes and highly exclusive camps can sit well above them. Short group-joining trips may sometimes appear below them, but the inclusions and operational standard must be checked carefully.

What does that mean for a seven-day safari?

Using the planning bands above, a seven-day private mid-range northern-circuit safari may broadly fall around USD 2,800–4,900 per person sharing. Luxury can begin around USD 4,900 and rise substantially according to camp choice, season and flights.

This is budgeting mathematics, not a live quote. A true proposal needs exact lodge availability, confirmed park fees, room type, group size and travel dates. International flights are normally separate.

The six factors that change the price most

1. Group size

A private safari vehicle and guide create significant fixed costs. Two travelers divide those costs between two people; four or six travelers divide them more widely. This is why the per-person price often decreases as the group grows, even when the vehicle and route remain the same.

Solo travelers may also pay a single-room supplement because accommodation pricing is commonly based on two guests sharing.

2. Travel season

Peak dry-season, festive-season and popular migration dates can command higher accommodation rates. Green and shoulder seasons may offer better value, but weather, camp operations and wildlife distribution should be considered alongside price.

The cheapest month is not automatically the best value for your objective. A migration-focused trip in the wrong region can cost less and still fail to deliver the type of experience you intended.

3. Accommodation level and location

The label “luxury” is not enough. Price is influenced by service, room design, privacy, food, guiding, brand, camp size and—critically—location. A well-positioned tented camp inside or close to a wildlife area may reduce daily transfer time and protect the best hours for game viewing.

Ask for the exact accommodation names. “Similar lodge” should be clarified before payment because location and quality can materially change the trip.

4. Route and park time

Longer routes use more fuel and may involve additional conservation, concession or park fees. Multiple one-night stops can also cost more operationally while delivering less relaxed time than a route with carefully chosen longer stays.

A low headline price may rely on accommodation far outside the park, shorter game drives or more transit time. Compare where each night is spent and how many full wildlife days are included.

5. Driving versus flying

Scheduled bush flights can save many hours on selected routes, particularly when connecting distant Serengeti regions with Arusha or Zanzibar. They increase the trip price and introduce baggage rules and fixed schedules.

Driving is often better value for a northern-circuit progression and allows travelers to experience the changing landscapes. A good planner uses flights where they protect the journey rather than adding them only as a luxury label.

6. Special experiences

Balloon safaris, private cultural activities, walking safaris, night drives, premium drinks, spa treatments and exclusive-use arrangements can add significantly to the total. Some activities are only available in specific locations or under particular operating rules.

Optional experiences should be listed separately so you can understand the base journey before deciding what to add.

What a well-built safari quote usually includes

  • Private or shared safari vehicle as clearly specified
  • Professional driver-guide and associated operating costs
  • Accommodation and the stated meal plan
  • Park and conservation fees listed as included or excluded
  • Game drives and transfers described in the itinerary
  • Drinking water during safari if offered
  • Domestic flights only when explicitly named
  • Taxes and service charges where applicable

Never assume an item is included simply because it is common. Read the exact proposal.

Costs that are often separate

  • International flights
  • Visa costs and passport expenses
  • Travel and medical insurance
  • Tips and personal spending
  • Premium alcoholic drinks
  • Vaccinations, medication and personal health preparation
  • Optional activities not named in the itinerary
  • Extra hotel nights caused by international flight schedules

Why two safari quotes can look impossible to compare

One quote may use a private vehicle while another uses a shared departure. One may place travelers inside the Serengeti while another uses accommodation farther away. Park fees, internal flights, drinks and transfers may be included in one price and excluded from another.

Compare the route line by line. Look at exact properties, room type, meal plan, vehicle arrangement, guide language, park time, cancellation terms and the currency in which payment is due.

Warning signs in an unusually cheap quote

  • Accommodation is unnamed or repeatedly described only as “similar”
  • Park fees and crater-related charges are unclear
  • The number of game drives or park-entry days is not stated
  • Payment instructions use an unrelated personal account
  • Cancellation and refund terms are missing
  • The itinerary depends on unrealistic driving times
  • Specific wildlife sightings or river crossings are guaranteed

Low cost is not automatically unsafe, and high cost is not automatically excellent. Transparency is the stronger signal.

How to improve value without weakening the safari

  • Travel with more people in one private vehicle when appropriate
  • Stay longer in fewer areas instead of adding repeated transfers
  • Consider shoulder or green-season dates that match your interests
  • Choose comfortable, well-located accommodation rather than paying only for a famous brand
  • Use internal flights only where they save meaningful time
  • Ask for one complete itemized proposal before comparing headline totals

Request the right kind of quote

Share your exact dates, number of travelers, room arrangement, preferred comfort level and the experiences that matter most. A responsible operator should explain what changes the total and identify which elements are estimates or subject to availability.

Africano Paraiso prepares tailored proposals because live lodge rates, permits, fees and availability can change. The planning ranges in this guide help set expectations; only a written, date-specific quotation confirms the actual price and inclusions for your journey.
