Where should you stay in Zanzibar?
Stone Town
Choose Stone Town for Swahili history, architecture, food and access to cultural experiences. One or two nights is enough for many safari travelers. It is atmospheric, but it is not a substitute for a dedicated beach stay.
North and northwest coast
Areas around Nungwi and Kendwa are popular for swimming, sunsets and a lively selection of properties. The experience varies greatly by hotel and exact beach position.
East and southeast coast

Scheduled light-aircraft services connect several Serengeti airstrips with Zanzibar, sometimes directly and sometimes with stops. Other itineraries fly from Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport. The word “direct” should always be verified against the actual schedule.
Small aircraft normally impose stricter baggage limits than international airlines and often prefer soft-sided bags. Confirm weight, dimensions and whether camera equipment is included in the allowance before packing.
